Foundation Governors

Summary

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from practising, committed Catholics to serve as Foundation Governors on our governing body.

This role may be particularly of interest if you have skills in finance/accounting, human resources, data or education but we invite applications from anyone who is interested in helping the school be the best it can be.

Details

Foundation Governors are personally appointed by His Grace, the Most Reverend Bernard Longley, Archbishop of Birmingham, to represent both his interests and those of the wider Catholic community in diocesan schools.

Governors work collaboratively as a team, closely supporting the headteacher and school staff.  Foundation Governors share the responsibilities of all governors, which include:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, as well as the performance management of staff
  • Acting as a “critical friend” by offering both support and constructive challenge to school leadership
  • Supporting the overall work and mission of the school

In addition, Foundation Governors have a special responsibility to:

  • Preserve and promote the Catholic character of the school
  • Ensure that Religious Education is delivered in accordance with the Bishop’s policies for the Diocese

No prior experience is necessary—training and support will be provided throughout your term of service.
